About Turkishle
We help people speak real Turkish β confidently, naturally, and without feeling lost.
How It All Started
It started in 2019 at ΓzyeΔin University in Istanbul.
I was working at the International Office, helping foreign students navigate Turkish bureaucracy. One day, an international student walked in needing help with her residence permit.
Her name was Sarah.
I helped her with the paperwork. And despite the language barrier between us... we fell in love. π
(I always say we're the Turkish version of Jim and Pam from The Office π)
The 4-Year Struggle
At first, we communicated entirely in English β my broken English, which she patiently helped me improve.
But over time, I noticed something was wrong.
Sarah was becoming dependent on me for everything. Going shopping alone stressed her out. Talking to locals felt impossible. She relied on Google Translate just to get through the day.
She couldn't make friends. She missed job opportunities. She felt isolated in what was supposed to be her new home.
The frustrating part? Sarah was brilliant at languages. She'd already mastered several before coming to Turkey.
So why was Turkish so different?
Over 4 years, she tried everything:
Textbooks. Turkish dramas. A professional tutor. Duolingo. Busuu.
She wanted to give up so many times. It was exhausting.
And the worst part β she couldn't even tell if she was improving.
After 4 years, she still couldn't have a simple conversation with my mom.
The Realization That Changed Everything
Watching her struggle, it finally clicked.
Every book, app, and course teaches Turkish the same way they teach Spanish or French β memorize grammar rules, study phrase lists, practice with artificial examples.
But Turkish doesn't work like that. It has its own logic. Its own pattern system. The way words build with suffixes, the structure, the flow β it's fundamentally different from European languages.
The problem wasn't Sarah. It was the method.
So I started teaching her differently. I focused on the patterns that make Turkish work. The logic behind the language. The foundation that makes everything else click.
And everything changed.
Vocabulary suddenly made sense
Grammar became predictable
Her confidence soared
Before long, she landed her dream job. Made real friendships. Started living life on her own terms.
Today, she speaks Turkish with my family like it's nothing.
